NextGen & USSSA Partner to Create National Talent Identification & Leadership Development Platform

USSSAplayers

KISSIMMEE, Fla. Two leading youth development organizations announce collaboration to provide exciting new developmental pathways for promising young players across U.S.

NextGen & USSSA have announced they will join forces to identify and develop promising young players through a long term youth development partnership that will provide world class educational opportunities for both players and coaches across the country.

USSSA is the largest Multi-Sport Association in the world with over 4.1 million participants playing on 265,000 teams in 16 Nationally Sanctioned Sports Programs. NextGen is a values based youth development platform providing club neutral talent identification and development opportunities that help accelerate the growth of promising players who aspire to play College, Professional or International Soccer.

As the Official Youth Development Program of USSSA Soccer NextGen will appoint a national network of District Development Directors who will be responsible for implementing local talent identification and development models across the country. The most promising players from these local development districts will then participate in The NextGen USA Elite Select Program with District, State, Regional & National Development Squads being created to provide a progressive “Best with Best” domestic and International competitive platform.

Tony Williams, NextGen’s Director of Youth Development, said, “We are very excited about our partnership with USSSA which will be aimed at inspiring, educating and empowering promising young players to strive for excellence both on and off the field. The United States has the potential to be a global leader in the development of exciting, educated young soccer players. We will only reach that potential if like-minded organizations work together in a more coordinated long term, player centered approach.”

Off the field the two organizations will collaborate to develop sports based educational initiatives that develop character and leadership through inspirational in person and innovative technology based programming. These initiatives will be initially focused on Soccer with potential to be expanded to other USSSA Sports.

A comprehensive Coaching Support Program will also be created to provide USSSA members with relevant coaching resources and continuing professional development opportunities that will be easily accessible and conveniently delivered locally.

Craig Scriven, USSSA’s Vice President of Soccer, said “This is an excellent opportunity for our members and we are excited about launching the program with NextGen. Soccer is going through some major transitions at this time with development being the reason behind these moves. Our goal here at USSSA has always been to provide our members with services and programs which benefit each organization, league, club, team and individual player. In creating this program, we are continuing to make sure development and chances of opportunities for our players are available.”

Get Ready for International Play

Utd Sports Aca

USSSA Soccer is pleased to announce partnership with United Sports Academies, a sports travel organization founded in 1998, run for sports people, by sports people.

“With United Sports Academies, the world is USSSA’s playing grounds,” Bill Fisher, Executive Director of United Sports Academies explained as he regarded the new cooperative between the two associations.

Members of USSSA will now have the opportunity to travel and compete on an international platform with United Sports Academies. The United Sports Academies tailors specific programs and tours based upon each specific sport and team. “International programs are based on the ages of the players, the competitive level of teams, and the goal of traveling abroad from a sporting and cultural standpoint,” said Fisher.

As described by Fisher, every tour provided by United Sports Academy varies both on and off the playing field. The concentration of the global travel is on the individual sporting program (75%) and a positive cultural experience (25%). Oversea tours range from 7 to 21 days, and may include tournament competition, friendly games/exhibitions, clinics and camps and attending professional games. “The cultural component is also very important from quality sightseeing excursions to being able to interact and socialize with the foreign teams and players on the field,” said Fisher.

For individual player development, competing on an international level presents multiple benefits. “Players learn to deal with adversity, whether it be from officiating to a challenging atmosphere in an arena or on the field to dealing with off field distractions. Players learn the importance of being able to adapt on and off the field and the importance of staying focused on the task, competing with American pride,” Fisher contends. He continues, “Through sport the world is made smaller, different cultures are brought together, we gain a much better understanding and compassion for one another. Sport is the language of the world.”

“This opportunity and program has been a goal of mine for some time and I am excited to see it start to develop,” said Vice President, Craig Scriven. “Our member teams, clubs, and leagues now have an excellent organization which can organize an experience of a lifetime.”

United Sports Academies management staff has over 28 years of experience and has traveled to over 26 countries to uphold their mission to ‘dedicate and provide teams and organizations with the best possible, highest quality international travel and competition experience, both on and off the field.’ Through their quality, excellence and dedication, United Sports Academies has developed a first-class reputation.

Juggle Dribble Shoot Starts This Weekend

Juggle, dribble and shoot. Throw the three words together and it sounds like your typical soccer practice, right? Not anymore! Juggle Dribble Shoot (JDS) is a new and exciting soccer-based skills competition that is shedding new light on the sport. The competition, unique to the world of soccer, is the sport-specific competition athletes have been waiting for. USSSA has partnered with creator Erin Mahan to develop and expand the program.

JDS will challenge the skill of participants across a range of sport-related trials. Juggle Dribble Shoot, true to its name, includes maximum count juggling, timed dribbling through a series of cones and shooting with precision through targeted area. Each individual competition has a point scale, and a player’s final JDS score is a culmination of points earned across all three trials. JDS also includes Goalie Wars, a competition tailored to measure skills specific to the goalkeeper position.

Qualifying JDS events will be held around the country, and the top five finalists from each gender’s age group will advance to the final at Swope Soccer Village, Sporting KC’s official training facility in Kansas City, Mo.

This weekend New York City Soccer League will kick off the JDS National Competition and we will have updates at both @NYCSoccerLeague and @SoccerUSSSA.

If you would like more information on hosting a Juggle Dribble Shoot event contact USSSA Soccer @ soccerinfo@usssa.com.

USSSA Soccer joins Sporting Club Network

The Sporting Club Network continues to grow as Sporting KC’s athletic partnership program welcomes its newest member: the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA). USSSA Soccer is a non-profit, sports-governing body that aims to develop and expand the game of soccer in the United States.

The USSSA first began as a slow-pitch softball organization in 1968 before expanding to other sports in 1997, making it the first multi-sports governing body. USSSA Soccer was added in 2001 by becoming a member of US Soccer.

Since then, the organization has continued to grow and, in 2006, USSSA appointed a new soccer committee to lead the National program. Increased interest and growth continued among both the youth and adult populations and, in 2007, the USSSA held its first State Championship in Kansas City, Mo. By 2008, ten other states had hosted their own State Championships and the first National Championship took place in Las Vegas, Nev. in December 2008.

The Sporting Club Network is a free affiliation program aiming to create a closer tie between Sporting Club, the parent company of Sporting Kansas City, and sports communities locally as well as nationally. Together, the Sporting Club Network and USSSA are working to provide athletes — youth and adult, soccer and non-soccer — with exclusive access to opportunities and events unique to Sporting Club and Sporting Kansas City.

“I am very excited in announcing our partnership with Sporting KC through the Sporting Club Network,” said Craig Scriven, USSSA’s National Director as well as the Kansas and Missouri State Director. “Sporting KC is a leader both on and off the field and I am delighted to allow our members a unique and positive way to network with the MLS Champions.”

As part of USSSA’s inclusion into the Sporting Club Network, the two groups will work to host the finals of a new Juggle, Dribble, Shoot (JDS) competition in Kansas City. JDS is a competition unique to the sport of soccer. Participants challenge their skills across a range of soccer-related trials: maximum count juggling, timed dribbling through a series of cones and shooting with precision through targeted areas.

Each individual competition has a point scale, and a player’s final JDS score is a culmination of points earned across all three trials. JDS also offers Goalie Wars, a competition tailored to measure skills specific to the goalkeeper position. Qualifying events will be held around the country, and the top five finalists from each gender’s age group will advance to the final at Swope Soccer Village, Sporting KC’s official training facility in Kansas City, Mo.

“Over the past few months, both Sporting KC and myself have been speaking about how we can create a great relationship between our organizations and support each other’s programs,” Scriven said. “I am excited to be a part of the Sporting Club Network and seeing the relationship develop to give our members another positive benefit.”

The relationship between the Sporting Club Network and USSSA will aim to play a large part in the overall growth of soccer across the country by elevating the level of youth soccer in several different regions, while also offering extensive new benefits to directly impact the improvement of local players.

Additional details on USSSA’s JDS Qualifying events, as well as information on the finals, will be posted in the near future. For all the latest information regarding these events and other events through the Sporting Club Network, follow the SCN on Facebook and Twitter.
