Member Update COVID-19 Season Extension
Dear Members,
As we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times, we hope this message finds you and your family safe and well.
USSSA Soccer team activities, as stated in our March 17th announcement, are still under a suspension of play. Understand, we continue to monitor the situation and follow guidance from state and national officials on potential return to play models.
Based on loss of play to many of your leagues, and after lengthy consideration, we have decided to extend the 2020 soccer season. Our original season end date of July 31, 2020 will be extended by one month, through Aug. 31, 2020.
This will give everyone as many as five extra weekends in August to still fit in league play and/or events as part of the 2020 season.
Please note: If you already had planned to start the new season (2020/21) August 1, it can still be started and considered part of next season (2020/21). The above situation will allow leagues to have play this summer under the current player/team registration fees and insurance coverage (see below).
If you choose this for your league and organization, your 2020/21 would be scheduled to begin on Sept. 1, 2020 and conclude by July 31, 2021.
In conjunction with the extension of the 2020 soccer season by one month, USSSA insurance will also be extended for one month until 12:01 a.m. on 9/1/2020. For any team with a current USSSA Insurance expiration date of 8/1/2020, the expiration date for that coverage is being revised to 9/1/2020 and no premium will be charged for the month of August 2020.
Your teams and organization certificate will be updated automatically and available through your local area director admin.
Hopefully this will be welcomed news for many of your leagues. We know this time is challenging and players are excited to be active again, play and compete. Additionally, at the national level, we are working to generate some exciting new playing opportunities for our players, teams and member organizations. These will be sent to you as we plan on our national return to play.
Due to the new information, we will be hosting a conference call for all our members on Monday April 13, at 1:30 PM (EST). This call will be led by USSSA national soccer committee members. A separate e-mail will be sent with all call-in details.
In closing, we wish you and your family a great Easter. Please continue to stay home, stay safe and together we will help path our return to play.
Sincerely,
Craig W. Scriven
Vice President
