National Championship Series Announced between United States Specialty Sports Association and AstroTurf.

Melbourne, FLA. United States Specialty Sports Association – Soccer (USSSA), an Organizational Member of U.S. Soccer (USSF), and AstroTurf, a leader in field technology and facility development has joined forces to create a national competition series.

The USSSA – AstroTurf National Championship Series will allow all clubs and teams across the country to play at state-of-the-art facilities, competing towards the national championships held at USSSA’s Space Coast Complex and Stadium in Melbourne, Florida. The championship event will be held each December starting in 2021, with all final games played in the 8,500 all seater stadium and streamed live on USSSAlive.com.

“Over the past several years AstroTurf and USSSA have established a solid working relationship, including the successful development of the Space Coast Stadium Complex and Viera Regional Park,” stated  Craig Scriven, Vice President of USSSA. “More recently, we’ve worked with Steve Coleman, Carl Capellas, and their team to create this soccer tournament series, which will set high standards, quality programming, with all games played at world class facilities.”

The 2020/21 qualifying tournaments will kick off where they end in 2021 at Space Coast Complex in Melbourne, Florida during the 2020 Labor Day weekend (September 4-7th). The second event will be held at the Woodside Sports Complex, Wisconsin Dells (October 23-25th). Additional 2021 events are tentatively planned at Jennings Park, OH; and Trophy Park, NJ; with dates to be confirmed.

All tournaments will be sanctioned by USSSA, offering an unrestricted and open tournament to all members of USSF. This allows for teams across different memberships to compete in a unique national championship series. “Our goal is to bring together the soccer community and allow teams to compete across multiple divisions, against teams they may not see during their regular season,” Erick French, USSSA National Director said.

Hosting 2021 and 2022 events is a possibility for all AstroTurf complexes across the country, and these facilities will be contacted on hosting application processes. “In partnering with USSSA and creating this series, we offer teams the opportunity to compete at some of the best facilities in the country. As a player, I always appreciated the great facilities I was able to play at and show my talents,” says Carl Capellas, AstroTurf Director of Soccer.

The tournament series will be managed by USSSA, AstroTurf, and alongside Tournament Success Group (TSG). “To be associated with great facilities and a supportive sanctioning body is the key to every tournament,“ stated TSG Executive Director Bill Fisher. “The foundations and reach of this tournament series will allow teams from all across the country to compete towards an open national championship.”
