Omaha and Council Bluffs to Create a Win-Win Competition Schedule

OMAHA, NEB. Omaha and Council Bluffs Soccer Clubs create an alliance to focus on the development of their youth soccer programs starting this fall. Council Bluffs Soccer Club (CBSC), Infinite Sports World (ISW), Magellan Soccer Club (MSC), Impact Futbol Academy (IFA) and Evolution Soccer Club (ESC) will begin competition play this fall in a member operated league platform.

The member operated league will be sanctioned under United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA), a member of U.S. Soccer since 2001.

Each member club will be involved in creating the vision and direction of the league, in turn continuing to focus on the needs regarding development of their youth players. Competition play will begin at 8U age group and conclude at 12U for both boys and girls. Game schedules between club teams will focus on creating like-on-like match ups and roster flexibility. Club rostering will allow clubs the ability to prepare rosters for competition games which will challenge their team, as well as the competing club.

“I’m excited to have visited with all these clubs and even more excited to see how the vision of this league has come to fruition” said Craig Scriven, Vice President of USSSA. “They are like minded individuals, clubs and now pioneers in establishing a true league which will focus on development and allow each member club the flexibility to compete and work with their young soccer players.”

More information will be released in the coming weeks on each member clubs site and www.usssasoccer.com. Please contact soccerinfo@usssa.com for additional information about the league.

Onward and Upward for Harpo’s FC

The cinderella story for Harpo’s FC continues on, as the Colorado team edged past the BYU Cougar’s in Round One of the 2015 Lamar Hunt Open Cup. Players took the field at 7:30 p.m., MT, before a mountainous backdrop at the BYU Men’s Soccer Complex in Provo, Utah. After ninety minuets of back-and-forth regulation play, the score was locked 0-0. The gridlock continued through 30 minutes of overtime, though both teams created dangerous opportunities throughout. Harpo’s, now lovingly described by Open Cup aficionados as “ The Pub Team,” was outshot 24-12, but through team-wide defensive vigor, they pushed on the PK shootout. Harpo’s keeper Zac Gibbens showed up with a second-slot save against BYU that would swing the momentum in the Pub Team’s favor. Harpo’s put away four PKs, and the shootout concluded 4-2.

In Round Two, Harpo’s will take on USL’s Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Wednesday, May 20th. The interstate matchup, hosted by the Switchbacks’, will kick off at 9:00 p.m., ET. Stay posted for more information.

Harpo’s FC Advance in U.S Open Cup

USSSA’s Harpo’s FC clench the US Open Cup Preliminary Round win over KC Athletics.Harpo’s FC, established in Boulder, Colo., has been one of the most dominant teams in the state for years. Now, the 2015 squad will be the first to represent Colorado in the US Open Cup since 2004.

The April 25th matchup marked the third time Harpo’s FC and KC Athletic met on the road to the Cup this year; their first two contests arose in the USSA National Tournament. During number three, Harpo’s edged KC Athletics 2-0, with second-half goals from midfielder Dan Campbell and forward Shane Wheeler.

Preceding the USSA National Tournament, a USSSA representative had the opportunity to speak with Harpo’s manager John Freeston. Harpo’s have created massive success this year, but according to Freeston, the team’s work is not done. Freeston holds a strong vision. It’s not a dream come true yet. The dream come true is to become the Cinderella Story this year… to beat the PSL teams, the USL teams, and the MLS team.”

The dream continues, as Harpo’s prepare to take on the BYU Cougars (PDL) in the First Round of the Cup, on Wednesday, May 13th. Details to follow.
